Very good authentic Mexican food. Taco, cemita, torta, all good. They got nice frozen margarita too. Highly recommended if you are in the area.
The best tacos in all New York guaranteed I recommend this place to anybody that visits New York, Astoria, Queens
If you're from Astoria you've ended up at Athens after many nights out. That being said it's also my go to for take out on regular taco craving nights. Food is authentic and delicious, plus bonus points for super fast delivery. I love local gems like this!
I got two vegetarian tacos for about $15. They were very big and very filling! Lots of great flavor. Very authentic Mexican food. The woman who served us was very nice. The restaurant is cute in a kitschy way.
My go-to spot for fast and fair priced cravings! The tamales are AMAZING! Super delicious.
A $24 Mole Poblano takeout order came with a huge platter mole sauce with a gigantic chicken leg, containers of rice and beans, and five lovely warm tortillas. A great deal any day that lasted me two meals. The dark mole sauce was flavorful but had a thinner, more watery texture than I expected. I'd be excited to try the tacos sometime. 4% non-cash surcharge.
Like everyone else, I'm sure, I've missed going out to eat so much. Glad to be back! I guess if we had to find a silver lining in all of this, it's been nice to see so many restaurants in Astoria setting up little outdoor dining spaces. Some sprawling, some with just one table, some carefully and beautifully designed and some a little haphazard... I just love the ingenuity of it all. I've also taken notice of certain spots with new outdoor seating that I never gave a second thought to previously. Take, for example, Athens sports bar and grill. The fact that this Mexican restaurant references the Greek capital in its name always seemed like an intriguing, eclectic nod to the neighborhood, but I thought it was possibly not indicative of excellent food, so I never tried it. But a few days ago, given the outdoor seating, we decided to check it out. The ordering process: go inside, order your food at the counter, snag a table outside if you can, and pay after your meal. The food: We tried the the tacos al pastor and the chalupas chorizo. Both were great, but the tacos were my favorite. The pork was tender, and the addition of pineapple added some excitement. I am not a cilantro person, but it was super fresh and made a good addition to the taco. The chalupas are served tostada-style (open face) and come topped with salsa verde (2), tomato sauce (2), and a delicious helping of fresh cotija cheese. I'd get this again, but maybe try a different protein in place of the chorizo. The drinks: they offer an "all day happy hour" and lots of drink options, including multiple margarita flavors. I tried a frozen passion fruit marg, which had a nice flavor but was a little disappointing, as it was super syrupy and excruciatingly sweet.
